Partnership with Colleges and Universities
API provides three types of partnerships with colleges and universities including:
-
-
- Through our synergistic partnerships with colleges and universities, API develops and delivers customized engineering and science programs online and in hybrid format that complement and add to existing programs.
- Internships provided by our innovative API Internships Clinic that builds a college/university bridge to industry and creates valuable career opportunities to students.
- Current certificates in mechatronics, mathematical modeling, and customized courses and certificates
-
These cost-effective programs help to increase student enrollment significantly as engineering programs are among the most popular majors.
API has conducted research on the current status of online science and engineering education summarized in a peer-reviewed paper. This research has shown that teaching science and engineering online poses a major challenge because of the lack and inadequacy of the tools, program content, and hands-on labs experiments that are required for science and engineering courses. This prevents many colleges and universities from offering online science and engineering programs even when such programs are already offered onsite.
American Polytechnic Institute can provide quality and cost-effective solutions through partnerships with interested colleges and universities by developing and offering customized science and engineering programs and courses online and in hybrid format
When an institution of higher learning partners with API, it gains expertise that would otherwise be costly and take several years to develop internally. All programs are custom-designed by API, in consultation with the institution, after a comprehensive and well tested review and development process. The steps involved are listed below in chronological order:
- API reviews the existing institution's curriculum and science/engineering programs.
- Based on the results of the review, API proposes several options for expanding existing programs and/or adding new ones.
- The institution reviews those options with API and selects programs to develop.
- API and the institution sign a formal partnership agreement.
- API develops a detailed proposal for the design of those programs and courses.
- API assists the institution application for the programs’ approval from the accrediting agencies.
- Once approved by the agency, API develops the programs and courses in accordance with the requirements for accreditation by regional agencies and ABET for engineering programs and submits them to the institution's faculty curriculum committee for review and approval.
- Once approved, API and the institution select a date for starting the programs.
- API assists the institution in marketing the programs and obtaining accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)
After the programs' start, API keeps track of their progress and effectiveness and conducts evaluations at the end of each semester. These evaluations are used for monitoring and continual improvement and for accreditation. The program courses are offered through the institution's catalog and the institution retains complete control over all administrative procedures and overseeing rights of those courses.
